        How to read the Atlas

        • Dot colour: fastest journey time (under 2 h, 2–4 h, 4–7 h, 7–12 h, 12 h and more).
        • Dot size: number of direct trains per day.
        • Filters: high speed, intercity, regional, night trains, and maximum journey time.
        • Click a destination to make it your new departure station and see where it leads.

        Method and sources

Journeys are calculated by TrainsNews from the planned timetables published as open data by operators and transport authorities, for 2 to 29 November 2026. A train is "direct" when you can board at the departure station and alight at the arrival station without changing. A train published by two sources is counted once.

Frequency is a daily average over those four weeks, weekends included. Timetables change with engineering works and public holidays: always check the timetable for your travel date with the operator before you go.

Some countries are only partly covered: a banner says so on the station concerned, and coverage by country is listed below the tool. We add countries as soon as their timetables are published under a licence that allows it.

        Frequently asked questions

Where do the Rail Atlas timetables come from?

From official timetables published as open data by operators and transport authorities (SNCF, DB via DELFI, SBB via opentransportdata.swiss, NS, Renfe, Eurostar and others). The full list of sources and licences is shown below the tool.

What counts as a direct train?

A train you board at the departure station and leave at the arrival station without changing trains. Journeys with a connection are not shown.

        Are night trains included?

Yes. Night trains (Nightjet, European Sleeper, EuroNight, Intercités de nuit…) are shown in blue; the "Night trains" filter shows only them.

Can I book from the Atlas?

The Atlas links to the official website of the operator. TrainsNews does not sell tickets and is not affiliated with any operator.
