Who we are
TrainsNews is an independent rail news site, published in English and French. We cover railways in Europe and around the world: rolling stock orders, major infrastructure projects, signalling, freight, public policy and open access competition. We also publish practical guides to travelling by train.
How we work
Every story starts from a primary source: an operator's or manufacturer's statement, a government or regulator's decision, a tender, an official document. We cite and link it at the end of the article, with its date. When information comes from other media, we name them. Figures announced by a company are reported as such ("according to Siemens", "Network Rail said") and superlatives stay in quotation marks.
We add what a press release does not say: context, a comparison with figures, what it means for operations or passengers, and what remains uncertain. In our guides, this part appears under "Our analysis".
Our travel guides are updated regularly. Fares and timetables are checked on operators' websites on a stated date, given in each guide.
Artificial intelligence
We use artificial intelligence to help us research, summarise and write, always from the sources we cite. Every article is checked before publication and carries a note at the end. We do not use AI-generated images: our photos are real, taken from free photo libraries or Wikimedia Commons, and credited under each image. Our videos use a synthetic voice, labelled as such. Details are in our AI charter.
Independence and affiliate links
Some guides contain links to booking sites or a ticket comparison widget. If you book through these links, TrainsNews may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. These partnerships have no influence on which stories we cover or what we write.
